The Hexagenia mayflies are a burrowing nymph that lives most of its life in the silt on the bottom of lakes or very slow flowing rivers. When they hatch, which is usually in the July-August time frame just before dark, they make a tremendous meal for nearby trout, bass, or any other fish.
