Scientific Anglers introduced their revolutionary new Sharkskin line in 2008 and it has really stirred up the industry. We were a little skeptical at first, but after casting it and letting our customers cast it, it has become one of our most popular lines. The Sharkskin lines have a micro-repeating texture on the surface of the fly line. This texture is built right into the line and gives the line some really exciting advantages over regular lines that have a smooth finish. The most notable advantage to the Sharkskin is incredible shootability and slickness that you will feel in your very first cast. Also, memory in this line is almost zero and is the first thing we noticed about it. Next, this line floats like a cork, again due to the finish and the way air is trapped in the texture of the line. Cracking is also reduced and the longevity of the line is superb. Finally, since there are no smooth areas on the Sharkskin, glare or flash from the line is also eliminated. The only negative we have heard on this line is that it is expensive and that it makes a noise as it goes through the guides. Most guys don’t mind either once they’ve had a chance to cast it! Give it a try and you will immediately notice all of the things mentioned above. Color is chartreuse.
