The One replaces the popular Z-Axis as Sage's top-end, fast action rod so they had some big shoes to fill. When we first cast the One, months before they were officially announced, the entire staff was mesmerized by the accuracy, weight, and ease in casting these new rods.
There are a number of things that really makes the Sage One rods stick out. For starters, the One is an unbelievable 18% lighter than the Z-Axis was (on average). How can you get lighter than the Z-Axis!?!? Well enter Sage's Konnetic Technology which allows Sage to compact the carbon fibers closer together and use less resin and results in a lighter, smaller diameter rod blank. In addition, this Konnectic Technology also aligns the high modulus carbon fibers along the length of the rod and gives the Sage One rods another impressive attribute. The aligning of the carbon fibers (using a technology Sage calls Advanced Modulus Positioning System, or AMPS) dramatically helps the rod track straight and deliver pinpoint casts for the ultimate casting accuracy.
That's all plenty impressive but there was one thing that really blew me out of the water the first time I cast the One rods. The Sage One rods, unlike any rod I've cast before, have an amazing characteristic that enables them to load and cast smoothly at short distances yet have all the power to launch long casts and air out the entire line. Whether you have 10-feet or 60-feet of fly line in the air, the Sage One seems to load effortlessly and delivers smooth casts at both super short distances or at 100 feet.
Accuracy, distance, smoothness, and lightweight. The only thing left is beauty and the One covers that with a beautiful black blank, bronze reel seat hardware, a matte black rod tube, quality components, and Sage's uncompromised level of quality in their rod building.
The One. That pretty much says it all.
